About me

The trick is not the trick

Hocus Focus is a talk I crafted to reveal the magic that VR can borrow from the art of illusion—what magicians can teach VR directors about guiding the viewer's gaze in 360° spaces. It embodies my work philosophy: like magic, the true marvel of technology lies not in its mechanics but in its ability to create experiences that captivate and inspire.

Professional Update

After two years as the Senior UX Researcher on Amazon’s Special Projects team, I’m saddened to share that the team has closed. I will genuinely miss the team and the groundbreaking products we were developing to drive innovation in healthcare.

Because I am well aware that the employment market is completely bonkers, I am open to exploring various opportunities. Having said that, I did outline a shortlist of my abilities and goals to help match up with opportunities.

Abilities – While working on product development at Amazon, I recognized these strengths:

  • Thriving in 0-1 product development environments by managing and overseeing the UXR practical needs of building products from the ground up.

  • Building a comprehensive knowledge base encompassing user needs, motivations, and experiences across the product lifecycle.

  • Leveraging a solid qualitative research background to generate and synthesize insights for tackling complex product and design challenges.

  • Translating research findings into clear, actionable solutions while securing support from executive stakeholders.

  • Coordinating with product team partners to prioritize and execute strategic goals effectively

  • Able to switch between highly controlled and scrappy research methods while ensuring data validity and accuracy. *

(*)This portfolio shows much of my pre-pandemic work, often using in-person, low-fidelity, rapid iteration, and cost-effective methods. Nowadays, I deal mostly with high-fidelity, systematic, remote, and unmoderated testing approaches. They all have advantages, and I value the freedom to use the tools that are most appropriate for the situation at hand.

Goals – Looking ahead, I’m excited, and here are my general thoughts:

  • I was hired as a Senior UX Research III (L6) at Amazon. Before the project ended, I was working toward a Principal UX researcher position (L7). I would like to stay on that path.

  • Health technology and products incorporating emerging technology continue to captivate my interest with their "what if" scenarios that evoke awe and wonder. Finding a related role would be great.

  • I prefer to stay in SF but am open to other US cities like NY. Canada is a great option, too. (I’m a Vancouver native with family still up north!)

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or opportunities that align with my skills and goals. I’m eager to explore what’s next and look forward to connecting!
